Worldwide invasion by non-native plant species is a primary concern in forest ecosystem health and biodiversity. In the Northeast United States, two invasive non-native shrub species, Japanese barberry and multiflora rose, are among the worst invasive species in terms of significantly contributing to the degradation of forest habitat. Current eradication methods are time consuming, expensive, and ultimately ineffective. To address these issues, BirdHabitatBot is developing a method for detecting and removing Japanese barberry and multiflora rose by using drones and mobile robots.
